Biblical Usage
In Scripture, a memorial is something intended to preserve the memory of a person, event, act, or covenant. Memorials may consist of objects, offerings, names, written records, or appointed observances.
They serve to bring a matter to remembrance before people or before God. After Israel crossed Jordan, twelve stones were taken from the river and set up as a memorial so that future generations would remember what God had done.
