Biblical Usage
In Scripture, Bethlehemite identifies a person associated with Bethlehem. David is called the son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, and Jesse is identified as a Bethlehemite when Samuel is sent to anoint one of his sons.
The term is also used of Elhanan in the account of David’s mighty men. It identifies a person’s connection with Bethlehem rather than describing a separate people or nation.
