Meaning

To run away from a person, place, danger, or situation in order to escape.

Biblical Usage

Scripture uses flee for physically running away from danger, enemies, persecution, or a place, as well as for turning away from particular forms of evil. In warfare, people may flee when defeated or pursued.

The Bible also uses flee in commands to avoid evil, such as fleeing fornication and idolatry. The term therefore describes both physical escape and deliberate withdrawal from something to be avoided.
