When God Changes The Means
God may change the means by which He provides while remaining faithful to sustain His people.
Scripture
And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
Truth
God may change the means by which He provides while remaining faithful to sustain His people.
Insight
- God directed Elijah to the brook and later directed him to Zarephath.
- The drying brook did not mean that God had abandoned Elijah.
- A change in circumstances can require renewed attention to God's direction.
- Faithfulness includes obeying God's present instruction rather than clinging to a former method.
- God's provision should not be confused with the particular means through which it comes.
Application
- Do not assume that a changed circumstance means God has failed you.
- Seek God's wisdom when a familiar source or method changes.
- Be willing to release an old method when God's Word directs otherwise.
- Distinguish trust in God from attachment to a particular form of provision.
- Obey clearly grounded direction without acting impulsively.
