Scripture

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Ephesians 4:31-32

  • Forgiveness is grounded in the forgiveness God has shown us through Christ.
  • Guarding the heart includes dealing with resentment before it develops into harmful words or actions.
  • A heart being changed by God should increasingly produce mercy and forgiveness rather than hostility toward others.

Application

  • Refuse to feed bitterness through repeated anger, accusations, or harmful speech.
  • Bring unresolved anger honestly before God.
  • Choose kindness and self-control when dealing with difficult people.
